Sauk County Humane Society -

Big things have happened over the summer and bigger things are still to come. The first huge shelter addition was Shelton (Peaches) our new shelter dog. Shelton was surrendered to the shelter by a wonderful woman who made the tough decision after caring for Shelton from a puppy. I hope she knows that Shelton has touched the hearts of thousands of Sauk County children and adults. Shelton has appeared in parades, fairs and accompanied me on many talks to area youths. Shelton’s next appearance will be with the Boys and Girls Club and I know both of us are excited to speak with the group about animal care and bite prevention.
So along with Sheena our shelter cat I hope everyone will come in and say hi and welcome Shelton to the staff.
As many visitors know this year the shelter has been overwhelmed by cats. In June and July alone we accepted 202 stray cats and kittens. We have been very fortunate to have a great staff caring for them and a Foster Home Program that has assisted in housing the kittens until they are old enough to be spay/neutered and placed up for adoption. I do want to say we can always use additional Foster Homes if anyone is interested. It’s a great feeling to foster animals until they are old enough to be placed into their forever home. Anyone interested can contact the shelters Kennel Manager Nancy who can arrange to meet and explain the program.
Some things to look forward to that the Sauk County Humane Society will be participating in or having are:
• SCHS Holiday Open House November 7th – this year we will again have Santa taking pictures with your pets and more for the children. We would like to make the event more for the children by offering face painting, crafts such as ornament making, personalizing Christmas stockings and many more things for the children. We will also be having a bake sale (which tasty items would be welcome as donations to sell), silent auction (items welcome as donations to auction) and food and drinks.

Finally I want to say thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who have helped with the overload of cats and caring for our dogs. Just wanted to send you a quick note to let you know how much we love our new addition Lolli (formerly Jetta)!

I have been on the fence about getting a kitten for a long time and my husband finally convinced me that we would be providing a wonderful home for an abandoned kitten. We visited the Humane Society a few times to interact with the kittens and fell in love with Lolli! We just wish we would have been able to rescue her 2 sisters and brother as well. We have had Lolli for a little over a week now and she brings such joy to Tim and I. She is playful and loves to snuggle with us, not to mention she is cute as a button. If we feel this good about the adoption after just 10 days we can only imagine what the next years will bring. Thank you again for helping us add a wonderful addition to our family. Hopefully more people will see the benefits of adopting from the Sauk County Humane Society.

On a Friday in June after losing our beagle Kinkie of 12 years my grandmother and I decided one day that we wanted to stop in and see the dogs that the shelter had for adoption. When we first walked into the shelter we had it in our heads that we were just going to "start looking".

Then we went back and looked at your selection of adoptable dogs and fell in love with Birdie, a female beagle about 4 years of age. She was soo friendly and soo sweet that it was hard not to fall in love with her. But we did not adopt her that day. We left, thought about it that night and decided that we had to adopt her the next day if someone else had not already done so.

Saturday morning could not come soon enough. As soon as we knew the shelter was open we headed that way to pick up our girl. When we got there we were amazed to find out that she had not been adopted, we knew that she would soon be a member of our family and the adoption process began. We brought her home that day.

She has been a wonderful addition to our family, she has fit in perfectly.
Such a sweet and well behaved girl. She loves being outside in nice weather, going for walks and rides, along with sleeping in on the weekend. She keeps us on our toes and loves attention and affection. There is a never a day that she doesn't get her belly rubbed.

We are soo glad that we were able to adopt her and that she is now a member of our family. I have included a picture of her, so everyone can see just how happy she is.
